PD/16 Belle Vue Corner at the junction of Cobourg Street, 1960

"The presence of four small commercial vehicles outside the shops on this expansive junction - Belle Vue Corner, where North Road East and West ran off either side of Cobourg Street at the top of the hill coming up from Pennycomequick - indicates that this was still a busy little retail hub 50 years ago.

Today North Road West still runs off at a similar angle, while North Road East now curves sharply around to the large roundabout that has superseded the old junction, some 50 yards or so further up the hill.

Long gone now are shops that housed Crook and Trott's wholesale newsagents and stationary, O'Brian's the opticians, Jack's Photographic Services, Belle Vue Television Service (the place for Exkovision) and the Lavender Dry Cleaners.

The corner of the buildings we see on the far [left] are still with us, this being the terrace that overlooks the roundabout, just up from North Road Station, which defines the original line of North Road to this point".
